\u00a0 Today cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death worldwide, cancer is the second leading cause, and in the United States the third leading cause of death is known as \u201cIatrogenic,\u201d meaning death caused a<span style=\"color: black;\">s the result of a medical treatment. \u00a0Diabetes is also a leading cause of death throughout the world, but it is difficult to quantify because 75% of diabetics die of cardiovascular problems, so the cause of death is listed as heart attack or stroke, but the true underlying cause was diabetes.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm; margin-bottom: .0001pt; font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11px; color: black;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm; margin-bottom: .0001pt; font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"><u><span style=\"color: black;\">Research shows 80% to 90% of heart disease, cancer, and diabetes are due to a poor diet and lifestyle.<\/span><\/u><span style=\"color: black;\">\u00a0So why are we not taught at an early age how to take care of ourselves through nutrition and preventive healthcare? \u00a0The instructions that come with most medications state\u00a0<\/span><em><u><span style=\"color: #0070c0;\">\u201cThis medication, along with diet and exercise. . .\u201d.<\/span><\/u><\/em><span style=\"color: #0070c0;\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: black;\">Well, where do we get our advice on a healthy diet and appropriate exercise? \u00a0<em><u>Surveys show that 98% of patients think their medical doctor is well trained in diet and nutrition and look to the doctor to advise them on healthcare. \u00a0<\/u><\/em><\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm; margin-bottom: .0001pt; font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11px; color: black;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm; margin-bottom: .0001pt; font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif; background: #FAF9F8; vertical-align: baseline;\"><u><span style=\"color: black;\">THE REALITY IS:<\/span><\/u><span style=\"color: black;\">\u00a0most doctors have little or no training in health and nutrition; <u>Google\u00a0<\/u><strong>\u201cNutrition education U.S. medical schools\u201d<\/strong> and you will find;\u00a0<\/span><em><u><span style=\"font-size: 13px; color: #0070c0;\">\u201c<\/span><\/u><\/em><em><u><span style=\"font-size: 13px; font-family: 'Times',serif; color: #0070c0; border: none windowtext 1.0pt; padding: 0cm; background: white;\">Less than half of all schools report teaching any nutrition in clinical practice; practice accounts for an average of only 4.7 hours overall.\u00a0<\/span><\/u><\/em><em><u><span style=\"font-size: 13px; font-family: 'Minion W08 Italic',serif; color: #0070c0; background: white;\">Conclusions<\/span><\/u><\/em><em><u><span style=\"font-size: 13px; font-family: 'Times',serif; color: #0070c0; border: none windowtext 1.0pt; padding: 0cm; background: white;\">. Many US medical schools still fail to prepare future physicians for everyday nutrition challenges in clinical practice.
