FOLLOWING THE LAWS OF NATURE?

Struggling with health or weight loss issues? Have low energy, high blood pressure, and diabetes, digestive issues, struggling with stress, anxiety, depression or other health challenges?

HERE’S THE PROBLEM!

We are not paying attention to the laws of nature.  Our natural environment is filled with cyclical patterns and rhythms; consider our personal circadian rhythms such as our sleep/wake cycles, our hormonal cycles, and menstrual cycles in women.  Even bears have a hibernation cycle.  So let’s start by looking at the big picture.

The EQUINOX: in Latin the word means “equality of day and night, in the northern hemisphere it occurs twice a year around spring (March 20th this year) and autumn (September 22nd this year).  In the southern hemisphere the seasons are the exact opposite.

This is the time when the Sun is directly over the Equator and day and night are the same length of time (12 hours of day and 12 hours of night.).  From the spring equinox (also known as the vernal equinox) the days begin to get longer until we reach the longest day of the year known as the summer solstice.

The SOLSTICE: in the northern hemisphere the summer solstice is (June 21st this year), the longest day of the year when the sun reaches its highest point in the sky at noon.  The winter solstice (December 21st this year), is the shortest day of the year when the sun reaches its lowest point in the sky at noon.

The FOUR SEASONS: The Equinox and Solstice then divide the year into the four seasons of winter, spring, summer and fall.  As the days get longer and warmer, food production increases, physical activity increases, our mood and confidence increase and we become more productive.  As the days shorten, food production reduces or stops, physical activity is less, our mood drops and we pack on weight to see us through the winter and we become less active.

Our natural environment is filled with cyclical patterns and rhythms, such as seasonal fluctuations in temperature and precipitation as the Earth revolves around the Sun.  These biological rhythms are classified into three major categories according to the time separating the beginning to the end of the next repeating cycle.

Infradian rhythms: (periods of more than 24 hours) such as monthly cycles driven by the Moon’s revolution around the Earth such as tides, gravitational forces, and menstruation/ovulation cycles in women.

Circadian rhythms: (a 24 hour period, from the Latin circa, meaning “around” and dies, meaning “a day,” which influence our sleep/wake cycles, our body temperature cycles, hormonal cycles, work/rest cycles, etc.

Ultradian rhythms:  (periods of less than 24 hours) our sleep/wake cycle which is composed of five separate repetitive cycles of sleep which repeat about every 90 minutes. Respiration (around 16 breaths per minute), pulse rate (around 70 to 80 beats a minute), blood pressure (around 120/80), blood circulation, urination, bowel activity, appetite stimulation and inhibition, hormonal cycles such as Leptin to control appetite, serotonin to regulate mood, melatonin to regulate our sleep, cortisol for stress, adrenaline our fight or flight hormone. Healthy living skills require us to pay attention to and manage our lifestyle habbits including what goes into our body as well as what comes out.  If we refuse to pay attention – bad things happen!  The choice is yours.

So, when is the best time to lose weight?  How about right NOW!  With the Spring Equinox the days are getting longer, the weather is getting warmer, food production and selection will be greater and more abundant.  We will be able to be more active and get more exercise, all of which are more conducive to good health and weight loss.
